The Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Sumatera Utara (FKG USU) held a Networking Session with the Regional Collaborating Centre (RCC) USU-SDGHI Team and a delegation from the SingHealth Duke-NUS Global Health Institute (SDGHI). The event in the Nazir Alwi Room at FKG USU marked a strategic step in strengthening international collaboration in the health field, particularly in dentistry, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

 

The Dean of FKG USU, Dr. drg, officially opened the event. Essie Octiara, Sp.KGA. Subsp.PKOA(K). In her remarks, she expressed appreciation for the presence of the SDGHI delegation. She emphasized expanding global networks to foster innovation and solutions in dental education and services.

“FKG USU is committed to being part of global change in the health sector. Through this collaboration, we aim to integrate SDG values into our curriculum, research, and community service, to produce real, sustainable impact,” said Dr. Essie.

Following the opening remarks, FKG USU was represented by Dr. drg. Pitu Wulandari S.Psi., Sp.Perio, Subsp.MP(K), as Vice Dean III, presented the institution's profile and achievements in academics, research, and social contributions. She also highlighted the great potential of international cooperation in strengthening the institution’s capacity on a global level.

 

The delegation from SDGHI — an institution under SingHealth and the Duke-NUS Medical School — expressed enthusiasm and appreciation for this collaborative initiative. They emphasized the importance of continuous and collaborative partnerships in addressing public health challenges in the modern era.

The event included an interactive discussion session between the RCC USU-SDGHI Team, FKG USU, and SDGHI representatives. Several strategic agendas were discussed, including: joint training programs, collaborative research in community dental health, the development of SDG-based curricula, and the potential for student and faculty exchange.

 

Through this Networking Session, FKG USU hopes to broaden its role and contribution to global health forums while strengthening its commitment to supporting sustainable development through excellence in education and healthcare services.
