History
1961
The USU Faculty of Dentistry was established based on SK Menteri PTIP No. 0048/Sek/PU dated 19 October 1961 and was inaugurated on 3 November 1961. By the time of its establishment, the USU Faculty of Dentistry still borrowed 42 chairs from the Faculty of Agriculture. At the time, the total of students in one grade was 29 people, consisting of 15 males and 13 females.
1962
On October, the USU Faculty of Dentistry started to accept a permanent lecturer, drg. Ny Moediyah Mochtar from UGM, Yogyakarta. She taught Dental Materials and Technical Propedus. The government of Germany donated some equipment or Dental Unit with terms and conditions, including providing the land and the building.
1987
With the help from LordEDB in November, the FKG started to grow rapidly with a focus on adding Dental Unit and Lecture Buildings.
2002
One of the attempts to anticipate public demands not admitted into the regular class for bachelor students in FKG USU, based on the permit by DIKTI on 15 July 2002 (SK No. 1412/D/T/2002), then since Academic Year 2002, Independent Regular Program was opened. The total of international students in this program keeps increasing every year. Today, the USU Faculty of Dentistry has an accreditation rank of A for Academic Study Program (0488/LAM-PTKes/Akr/Sar/VIII/2017) and also for Professional Study Program (0489/LAM-PTKes/Akr/Pro/VIII/2017).

Faculty of Dentistry Hall (Pendopo FKG)
The Pendopo FKG USU is one of the key facilities available within the Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Sumatera Utara. Designed as a clean, comfortable, and refreshing open space, it is ideal for various activities, especially for students.
Students can gather, discuss, and exchange ideas on lecture topics, research, and various academic and non-academic activities here. Beyond being a space for academic interaction, the pendopo is also frequently used to relax and unwind, fostering a conducive atmosphere for learning while strengthening the sense of community among FKG USU’s academic members.
Nazar Alwi Room
Nazar Alwi Room serves as the primary venue for meetings and various academic and non-academic activities at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Sumatera Utara. This room has witnessed numerous significant events held every month, including routine meetings, the oath-taking ceremonies for dentists and specialist dentists, religious celebrations, and various student activities such as PEMA leadership inaugurations and other organizational events.
To ensure comfort and smooth execution of events, Nazar Alwi Room is equipped with modern facilities, including well-arranged chairs and tables, a high-quality sound system, an LCD monitor, and Wi-Fi access. With its comprehensive amenities and conducive atmosphere, this room serves as an ideal space to support academic, professional, and social activities at FKG USU.
CBT Room and OSCE Center
The CBT Room and OSCE Center at the Faculty of Dentistry, USU, are essential facilities to support competency examinations and computer-based learning for students.
The CBT Room has 142 computer units, all directly connected to the internet via LAN cables, ensuring a stable and seamless examination process. The room is designed to provide a comfortable and quiet environment, complete with LCD projectors and air conditioning to enhance the learning experience.
Meanwhile, the OSCE Center plays a crucial role in the Competency Examination for Dental Profession Students (UKMP2DG). In addition to hosting this national exam, the facility is utilized for post-tests for professional and specialist students, ensuring a structured and comprehensive evaluation process.
With these state-of-the-art facilities, the Faculty of Dentistry at USU is committed to providing a high-quality learning and assessment environment that supports students in achieving academic and professional excellence.
Faculty of Dentistry's Reading Room
The Faculty of Dentistry at USU provides a reading room with a capacity of 20 people as a supporting facility for students. This reading room is equipped with a diverse collection of literature, including dental textbooks published both domestically and internationally, journals, magazines, lecture notes, teaching materials, and student theses. Additionally, reading tables are available for users' convenience.
In addition to utilizing the faculty’s reading room, students can also access the USU Central Library, which operates until 10:00 PM on weekdays, or visit the departments within the Faculty of Dentistry to obtain books, journals, or other reading materials to support their academic needs.
