FKG USU, 1/9—The Department of Oral Biology, Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FKG USU), has a cheerful and enthusiastic atmosphere for learning. This can be seen on students' faces as they participate in the Block 9 practicum focusing on Oral Cytology in the Oral Biology laboratory.
This practicum is an integral part of the USU ECG curriculum, which aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the cells and tissues in the oral cavity and various associated pathologies. Students entered the laboratory enthusiastically, ready to delve deeper into the science of oral biology.
In this Oral Cytology practicum, students are exposed to the preparation and microscopic examination of tissue samples and cells in the oral cavity. They also learn about various staining techniques to identify cells and cellular structures correctly.
Experienced lecturers in the Department of Oral Biology guide students with patience and knowledge. They explain laboratory techniques clearly and provide guidance in observing and identifying the cells and microscopic structures examined.
“This practicum is a valuable opportunity for students to dig deeper into the field of oral biology. We strive to provide an immersive and fun learning experience so that they can better understand the complexity of structures and functions in the oral cavity,” said Dr. Siti Rahma, one of the lecturers at the Department of Oral Biology.
A glow of happiness and achievement radiated from the students' faces as they precisely identified cells and tissues. This practicum also provides solid preparation for those who will later become dentistry and dental science professionals.
“We feel inspired and ready to learn more. This practicum really gave us a deeper insight into how microscopic structures in the oral cavity play a role in oral health,” said Dian, one of the USU ECG students who participated in this practicum.
The Oral Cytology Practicum at the Department of Oral Biology of the USU ECG not only provides academic understanding, but also improves practical skills and enthusiasm in the field of dental science. This excitement and enthusiasm for learning reflects the USU ECG's commitment to preparing students to become qualified professionals in the world of dentistry.
