The Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FKG USU), held an expert lecture, this time by drg. Ferdinand Hadinata, Sp.Perio, a leading periodontist. Located in Building B FKG USU, the event on Monday raised the topic “Soft Tissue Management Around Dental Implant with Provisionalization.” This activity was initiated by the Periodontia Department of FKG USU and managed to attract the interest of many students and practitioners in the field of dentistry.
The lecture began at 09.00 WIB and opened with a warm welcome from the Head of the Periodontia Department, drg. Rina Andayani, Sp.Perio. In her speech, drg. Rina conveyed the importance of soft tissue management around dental implants to ensure the long-term success of the implant procedure. She also emphasized that the selection of this topic is very relevant, considering the increasing need for precise and effective dental implant treatment.
drg. Ferdinand Hadinata, Sp.Perio started his presentation by introducing the basic concept of soft tissue management around dental implants. He explained that healthy and stable soft tissue is the key to preventing complications such as peri-implantitis and ensuring optimal aesthetics. With a systematic and evidence-based approach, drg. Ferdinand discussed advanced techniques in provisionalization, such as using temporary restorations to shape and maintain the soft tissue profile before the placement of definitive restorations.
“Provisionalization is not just about aesthetics, but also about the functionality and health of the tissues surrounding the implant,” stressed drg. Ferdinand. He added that the long-term success of dental implants relies heavily on the dentist's ability to manage the soft tissue appropriately from the start of treatment.
The lecture was not only filled with theoretical presentations, but also with live demonstrations through videos of cases handled by drg. Ferdinand. The participants were invited to see in detail every step in the provisionalization procedure, from the selection of materials to the proper fitting technique. The interactive discussion was lively, with many questions from enthusiastic participants who wanted to know more about the techniques and practical tips from the expert.
One of the participants, drg. Amelia, revealed that this lecture opened her mind. “So far, I have often experienced difficulties managing the soft tissue around the implant. The explanation and demonstration from drg. Ferdinand's explanations and demonstrations were very helpful, and I am sure I will apply the techniques taught in my daily practice,” she said.
The expert lecture was closed with a group photo session and the presentation of an award plaque to drg. Ferdinand Hadinata, Sp.Perio by the Dean of FKG USU, Dr. drg. Essie Octiara Sp.KGA, Subsp.PKOA (K). In his remarks, the Dean of the USU FKG expressed his high appreciation for the willingness of drg. Ferdinand to share his valuable knowledge and experience. He also hoped that similar activities could continue to be held to improve the knowledge and skills of students and practitioners in dentistry.
With the success of this event, the Department of Periodontia FKG USU proved its commitment to providing quality education and continues to strive to be at the forefront of the development of dentistry in Indonesia.
