Undergraduate and Professional Program

The Undergraduate Program in Dentistry at the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) is a study program focusing on human oral health care, including diagnosing, treating, and preventing dental and oral problems. During the program, students will learn various theories and practices on Basic Dentistry, Dental Conservation, Endodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, Oral Health, Oral Biology, Radiology, Periodontics, Biomedicine, Dental Caries, Dental Tissue Diseases, and other related topics.

This study program aims to become a leader in 2025 in the fields of natural resources, technology, and art with global competitiveness, professionalism, and entrepreneurial spirit. The USU Undergraduate Program in Dentistry graduates are expected to have broad global insights and the ability to compete in the international market. Students who complete this study program will be awarded an undergraduate degree in dentistry (S.K.G.).

History

1961

USU Faculty of Dentistry (FKG USU) was established based on the Minister of Higher Education and Science’s Decree No. 0048/Sek/PU dated 19 October 1961 and inaugurated on 3 November 1961.

2002

As an effort to accommodate some public interest, which includes the people who do not qualify to be admitted to the regular class for Undergraduate Degree in the Faculty of Dentistry USU, based on the permit by the Minster of Higher Education, Research and Technology dated 15 July 2002 (SK No. 1412/D/T/2002) since Academic Year 2002, the Independent Regular program was established. The number of international students in this program continues to grow every year. Currently, the Faculty of Dentistry USU has received an A accreditation rating for the Academic Study Program (0499/LAM-PTKes/Akr/Sar/VIII/2017) and also for the Professional Study Program (0489/LAM-PTKes/Akr/Pro/VIII/2017).
