In an effort to continue to improve the quality of education in the field of dentistry, the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FKG USU) organized a workshop entitled “Improving the Competence of Lecturers and Education Personnel: Leadership and Soft Skills in Education Facing the Era of Globalization 5.0.” This activity was attended by all teaching staff and education personnel of FKG USU. The workshop, held on Friday, December 8, 2023, at the Nazir Alwi room, presented Pasoroan Herman Harianja, S.H., M.Sc., as the main speaker. Pasoroan Herman Harianja is the President of - the Indonesian Maritime Pilots' Association (INAMPA), who has extensive experience in leadership and soft skills, especially in leadership and others.
This activity began with remarks from the Dean of FKG USU, Dr. drg. Essie Octiara, Sp.KGA, who opened the event with enthusiasm. In her speech, Dr. Essie Octiara emphasized the importance of developing the competence of lecturers and education personnel in facing changing times, especially in the era of globalization 5.0, which is marked by the rapid development of technology and communication.
Dr. Pasoroan Herman Harianja provided an in-depth understanding of the importance of leadership and soft skills in education, especially dentistry. He presented the material with a practical approach and case studies, enabling participants to understand and apply the concepts in their daily work environment.
This workshop is designed as a forum for teaching staff and education personnel of the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Sumatera to improve their understanding of the role of leadership and soft skills in the educational process. It is hoped that this activity's results can positively impact improving the quality of learning and management at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Sumatera Utara.
The event was closed with a question and answer session and interactive discussion, where participants could share their experiences and gain further insights from the presenters. The success of this workshop demonstrates FKG USU's commitment to bringing quality resources to equip lecturers and education personnel with relevant skills for the future.
