The Faculty of Dentistry, USU (FKG USU) conducted a training and motivation program for its academic staff, themed "Enhancing Employee Work Ethic". The event was held in two sessions: the first on Saturday, February 12, 2022, with approximately 30 participants, and the second on Sunday, February 13, 2022, with around 35 participants. The venue was the Nazir Alwi Auditorium at FKG USU.
As speakers and motivators for this event, FKG USU invited the Abu Ubaidah Training Center (ABT Center), which includes Ustadz H. Fajar Hasan Mursyid, Lc.MA and Ustadz Jeffri, Lc., M.TH as speakers, Ahmad Afandi Surbakti, S, Kom., M.M, and Muhammad Nuryadi, Lc as the MC.
At the event's opening, the Dean of FKG USU, Dr. drg. Essie Octiara, Sp.KGA stated that the training was aimed at increasing employee motivation. Enhancing employees' work ethic is done to support the achievement of performance targets set by the rector so that, together with teaching staff and students, they can pursue the target of USU being included in the QS 500. Our goals cannot be achieved if we cannot synergize and cooperate. Hopefully, with this training, employees can work as expected.
Also present at the event was the Vice Dean I of FKG USU, Dr. drg. Olivia A. Hanafiah, Sp.BM(K). She said that to achieve the best results, faculty leadership cannot work alone. All parts of the organizational structure in FKG USU, from the Dean, Vice Dean, Head of Study Program, Head of Department, Teaching Staff, KTU, Head of Sub-Bag, Employees, Security, and Cleaning Service, must be involved and able to carry out their respective duties to the maximum. If this system does not work well and we do not form a coalition, and there is no teamwork, then the performance demands of the Rector and the Ministry, as well as the Faculty of Dentistry, USU as our pride, will be difficult to achieve and it will be difficult to compete with Faculties of Dentistry in other universities and even be left behind by FKGs in private universities in Medan. As the dean, we continue to strive to learn and develop ourselves in management and administration to achieve the targets demanded by the Ministry of Education. For two days, we will learn and improve ourselves from the ABT Center team, which aims to make our work, which has been seen as very heavy, become enjoyable and not a burden.
Ustadz H. Fajar Hasan Mursyid, Lc.MA, in his presentation, emphasized three important things that need to be instilled in the training participants: first, sincerity. Sincerity is likened to a root, which is the foundation of all work done by FKG USU employees. The second is commitment, which is likened to a stem. It is expected that every employee must be committed to carrying out their work seriously and responsibly. Then the third is work ethic, which is likened to the leaves and fruit of a tree, a high spirit possessed by an employee in working, not only to achieve their work targets but also the targets of the team or organization. With a high work ethic, we will become more productive, capable, and enthusiastic in completing every task.
There needs to be fertilizer to strengthen sincerity, commitment, and work ethic. The greatness of our gratitude for the blessings given by Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala, the Lord of the universe, is as fertilizer for carrying out our work, as conveyed by Ustadz Jeffri, Lc., M.TH. During the event, there were games to train participants' concentration and focus and strengthen camaraderie among FKG USU employees.
