Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to building inclusive and synergistic communication between the university leadership and each faculty through the “Rektor Menyapa” program. This time, the Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) USU was one of the faculties visited directly by the USU Rector, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., along with the university leadership team.

Also present during the visit were several Vice Rectors, namely Prof. Dr. Edy Ikhsan, S.H., M.A. (Vice Rector I), Dr. Muhammad Arifin Nasution, S.Sos., M.SP. (Vice Rector II), Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Si., M.Si., Apt. (Vice Rector III), Dr. Ir. Luhut Sihombing, M.P. (Vice Rector V). Their presence was warmly welcomed by the Dean of FKG USU, Dr. drg. Essie Octiara, Sp.KGA. Subsp.PKOA(K), along with the faculty leadership, lecturers, and student representatives.

In his speech, Prof. Muryanto Amin stated that the visit was not merely ceremonial, but a tangible form of the university leadership’s commitment to directly understanding the needs, challenges, and potential in each faculty. “We want to ensure that FKG USU receives optimal support in terms of academic development, research, and community service. Through this open dialogue, we want to hear directly the aspirations and hopes from the academic community,” said the Rector. He also appreciated FKG USU’s achievements in various areas, including accreditation improvement, innovative research, and contributions to the wider community.

The visit also included an interactive discussion between the university leadership and the entire academic community of FKG USU. Several strategic topics discussed included:

  • Improvement of accreditation and curriculum quality
  • Strengthening interfaculty research collaboration
  • Development of facilities and infrastructure to support education
  • Evaluation of FKG USU’s performance in 2024
  • Targets and direction for FKG USU development in 2025

The Vice Rectors also provided constructive feedback and presentations related to FKG USU’s achievements and future institutional strengthening plans.

In her remarks, Dr. drg. Essie Octiara expressed gratitude for the attention and support from the university leadership. “This visit means a lot to us. The direct presence of the university leadership brings new enthusiasm for the entire academic community of FKG USU to continue innovating and maintaining education quality. We hope the established synergy can become even stronger in realizing our shared vision,” she said.

The event concluded with an open Q&A session and a direct inspection of FKG USU’s facilities, which are an essential part of supporting the teaching and learning process. The “Rector Greets” program is expected to become an effective communication bridge between university policy makers and faculty-level education implementers. With a spirit of collaboration and openness, USU is optimistic about becoming a leading national and international educational institution — and FKG USU is ready to be an important part of that journey.
