The Faculty of Dentistry of Universitas Sumatera Utara (FKG USU) once again showed its commitment to developing education and research in dentistry by visiting the Faculty of Dentistry Prince of Songkla University (PSU), Thailand. This visit was represented by the Vice Dean III of FKG USU, Dr. drg. Pitu Wulandari, S.Psi, Sp.Perio, Subsp.MP (K), and Secretary of the Dentist Professional Education Study Program (PSPPDG) FKG USU, drg. Mutia Amalia Nasution, M.Biomed, Sp.Ort, Subsp.DDPK(K).
This visit aims to strengthen academic and research cooperation between the two institutions and open up opportunities for collaboration in various academic and research programs. In her speech, Dr. drg. Pitu Wulandari expressed the importance of international collaboration in improving the quality of dental education at FKG USU. “We appreciate the opportunity to learn and share knowledge with colleagues at PSU. This is a strategic step to advance our curriculum and research,” she said.
The visit agenda included intensive discussions with PSU about both institutions' education, research, and community service programs. Drg. Mutia Amalia Nasution also added that the visit provided valuable new insights. “We discussed the latest teaching methods and technology in education, research, and community service to create collaboration between the two. This will be very useful to be applied at FKG USU,” she said.
In addition to academic discussions, the delegation was also invited to visit facilities supporting education and research at PSU. The visit clarified how PSU manages and utilizes existing resources to support its academic and research activities.
“We were impressed with the laboratory and clinical facilities at PSU, which are very modern and complete. This inspires us to continue to improve the facilities at FKG USU to be on par with international standards,” added Dr. drg. Pitu Wulandari.
The visit ended with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between FKG USU and PSU covering various areas of cooperation, including student and staff exchanges, research collaboration, and joint curriculum development. This memorandum of understanding is expected to be a strong foundation for both institutions to continue working together to improve the quality of education and research in dentistry.
International cooperation like this shows the commitment of FKG USU to becoming a superior and globally competitive educational institution. “We hope that this collaboration can run well and provide great benefits for both parties, especially in improving the quality of education and dental health services,” concluded Dr. drg. Pitu Wulandari.
With this visit, FKG USU took a real step toward establishing strategic international relations and achieving its vision of becoming the leading center of dental education and research in Southeast Asia.
