This event was attended by the Dean of FKG USU, Dr. drg. Essie Octiara, Sp.KGA., Sub.Sp.PKOA(K), as the Opening Remark, the Head of IAO, Dr. Rudy Sofyan, SS., M.Hum, as the Opening Remark, and the Vice Deans of FKG USU. Also present at the opening of the Online Course at the International Summer Course FKG USU 2023 were the KPS and the Heads of Departments at the Faculty of Dentistry, USU.
After the opening ceremony, the Online Course was conducted, featuring international speakers such as Assoc. Prof. Dr. Srisurang Suttaprey, DDS., Ph.D from the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Prince of Songkla University. In addition to the previous speaker from Prince of Songkla University, two more speakers were presented: Dr. Supontep Teerakanok, DDS., DSCD from the Department of Periodontology and Asst. Prof. Dr. Nattapon Rotpenpian, DDS., Ph.D from the Department of Oral and Occlusion.

In addition to the international speakers, the Online Course also featured speakers from the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Sumatera Utara, including the Vice Dean I of FKG USU, Dr. drg. Olivia Avriyanti Hanafia, Sp.B.M.M., Subsp.C.O.M(K) from the Department of Oral Surgery. For the Department of Oral Biology, the appointed speaker was Prof. Dr. drg. Ameta Primasiri, M.DSc., M.Kes., Sp.PMM, and the speakers for the Department of Dental Radiology were drg. Cek Dara Manja, Sp.RKG(K) and drg. Dewi Kartika, MDSc.
This event, which took place from June 30 to July 1, 2023, had the theme "Application of Natural Resources in Dentistry."
Due to the high enthusiasm from participants both domestic and international, the Online Course was limited to only 100 participants per session.
This event is a program from Universitas Sumatera Utara, which is planned to be held annually with a different theme each year. This was shared by the Head of IAO, Dr. Rudy Sofyan, SS., M.Hum, who expressed USU’s desire for this event to succeed and bring a good reputation to USU internationally. "USU's positive image will grow along with the successful implementation of such events, which will improve USU’s ranking in Asia and even globally," he stated.
The success of this program is crucial in attracting more participants from both overseas and domestic in the future.
According to the organizing committee’s report, the Online Course was attended by over 100 participants in each session, with attendees from countries such as Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Yemen. Meanwhile, universities from within Indonesia that participated included Universitas Brawijaya, Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Hassanuddin, Universitas Padjadjaran, Universitas Baiturahmah, and Universitas Syah Kuala.
The Dean of FKG USU, Dr. drg. Essie Octiara, Sp.KGA., Subsp.PKOA(K), expressed her great hopes for a more festive event next year, involving more representatives from overseas universities. She also conveyed her regards to international participants and their institutions, stating that FKG USU is a good friend to all institutions and collaborative partners.
