FKG USU celebrated its 61st Anniversary on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at the USU Sports Hall. This event marked the peak of a series of activities to commemorate the anniversary of FKG USU, featuring various scientific events and performances, including traditional dances and a choir by USU students. The event was attended by faculty members, alumni, staff, and students of FKG USU.
The anniversary celebration was officially opened by the Rector of USU, Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si, followed by a traditional rice cutting ceremony, accompanied by the Dean of FKG USU, Dr. drg. Essie Octiara, Sp.KGA, and her team. In his speech, the Rector highlighted several important points for the leadership and members of FKG USU regarding the challenges that the faculty will face in the future. “In this era of globalization and the advancement of education, we must swiftly address academic issues, and one important aspect is that we must be willing to send our students to study at foreign universities. Are you, the faculty members, ready for this?” he quoted. He also expressed his hope for advancing FKG USU in the coming year through student exchange programs with overseas universities, enabling mutual transfer of knowledge and educational systems. The Dean of FKG USU also presented the current situation and achievements of the faculty throughout 2022, including several milestones related to students, faculty members, and FKG in general.
The event continued with a scientific oration delivered by Prof. Mei Syafriadi, MDSc., Ph.D from the University of Jember, on the topic “Mechanisms of Immune Escape in the Pathogenesis of Salivary Gland Tumors.” Additionally, the scientific activities included a panel discussion on “Dental Tourism: Opportunities and Challenges for Dentists,” moderated by Hendry Rusdy, drg., M.Kes., Sp.BM(K), with three speakers: Destanul Aulia, S.KM., MBA, M.Ec., Ph.D (Chairman of the Medical Tourism Board of Medan), Iskandar Muda Siregar, drg., Sp.Ort (Head of the Dental Department at RSUD, Dr. Pringadi Medan), and Christian Andri, drg., MDSc (Founder of Ladental Clinic Group and FKG USU Alumni). The panel discussion was the final activity of the anniversary event.
