Medan, 5 October 2023 - The Dentistry Education and Professional Study Program of the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FKG USU) held an important meeting to socialize the curriculum of the Dentistry Education and Professional Study program. Dean Dr. Drg attended the meeting. Essie Octiara, Sp.KGA, Subsp.PKOA (K), teaching staff, students, and related stakeholders. This activity was carried out hybrid, combining physical and virtual attendees, to ensure maximum participation amidst busy schedules.

The meeting, which took place on Thursday, October 5, 2023, aimed to introduce the curriculum designed to meet the demands of the development of dental science and accommodate the needs of students. This curriculum is designed based on the national dental education standards and considers technological developments and the increasingly complex needs of patients.

In his remarks, the Dean of USU's Faculty of Dentistry, Dr. drg. Essie Octiara, Sp.KGA, Subsp.PKOA(K), conveyed the importance of collaboration between all relevant parties in developing an appropriate curriculum. “We are very committed to improving the quality of dental education and training at FKG USU. Therefore, input from all parties, ranging from lecturers and students to dental practitioners, is highly appreciated,” said Dr. Essie.

At this meeting, faculty members from the Faculty presented details of the curriculum that had been developed, explaining how the new curriculum would provide a better learning experience for students. After the presentation, a very interactive question and answer session was held, where students and stakeholders could ask questions and provide input regarding the curriculum.

Dentistry Education and Professional students also actively participated in this meeting, expressing their expectations and questions about the curriculum they will undergo. Student involvement is recognized as an essential element in shaping a curriculum that suits their needs.

This curriculum socialization is also an opportunity to strengthen cooperation with external stakeholders, such as dental practitioners, hospitals, and other related institutions. Collaboration with external parties is expected to enrich student learning experiences and increase the curriculum's relevance to the real world.

The curriculum socialization meeting ended with a joint commitment to continue to improve and develop the Dentistry Education and Profession study program of FKG USU. Through active participation from all parties, it is hoped that the resulting curriculum can prepare qualified dentists who are ready to compete at the national and international levels.
