The National Scientific Week (PIN) in Pediatric Dentistry, on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at 08:30 AM WIB, was officially opened by the chairperson of the committee, drg. Ami Angela Harahap, Sp.KGA, M.Sc. The event commenced with a video presentation of the speakers, followed by the singing of the Indonesian national anthem and the Anthem of the Indonesian Society of Pediatric Dentists (IDGAI).
This event is part of the National Scientific Meeting (PIN), on its second day following the previous day's Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities on Wednesday, March 9, 2022. The Chairperson of IDGAI North Sumatra, drg. Siti Salmiah, Sp.KGA, expressed gratitude to the chairperson and her team for the smooth organization of the PIN event.
The Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FKG USU), Dr. drg. Essie Octiara Sp.KGA, stated that the event's success was due to the support of the Governor of North Sumatra, the Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara, the Dean's office of FKG USU, students, and other sponsors.
The Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara, Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos, M.Si, appreciated the successful organization of this year's PIN and encouraged a focus on the latest technological findings and innovations in Pediatric Dentistry, aiming to benefit pediatric dentists across Indonesia.
Governor of North Sumatra, Letjen TNI (Purn) Edy Rahmayadi, who was also present, emphasized the synergy between pediatric specialists and the government of North Sumatra in addressing oral health issues among children with special needs.
The first day of PIN was attended by 632 Pediatric Dentist Specialists and Postgraduate Dental Students (PPDGS) from across Indonesia. It featured panel discussions with speakers such as Prof. Dr. Sarworini B. Budiardjo, drg., Sp.KGA (K), Dr. Lili Rahmawati, Sp.A(K), dr. M. Surya Husada, Sp.KJ, and Dr. Sudirman Parningotan Sinaga, Sp.KFR, M.KM, moderated by Drg. Siti Salmiah, Sp.KGA.
The event continued with seminars on "Understanding Myofunctional Orofacial Disorders in Children through Oral Motor Evaluation with Dentosmart EMG Devices" by Prof. Dr. Harun Achmad, drg., Sp.KGA(K), and "The Effect of Mouth Breathing on Facial Development in Children" by Dr. drg. Hj. Risti Saptarini Primarti, Sp.KGA(K), moderated by Mega Moeharyono Puteri, drg., Sp.KGA.
The seminars proceeded with "Early Management of Cleft Lip and Palate Individuals: An Orthodontist Perspective" by Dr. Narayan H. Gandedkar, BDS, MDS, FCFO, moderated by drg. Iwan Ahmad M, Sp.KGA, and "The Cleft Collective Cohort Studies: A Resource for The International Community" by Dr. Yvonne Wren, BSc., MEd, PhD, Cert M RCSLT, moderated by Dr. Drg. Eriska Riyanti, Sp.KGA.
The activities also included Hands-On sessions: Hands-On I on "Early Detection of Child Development Disorders: Identification, Management, Control" by drg. Ulfa Yasmin, Sp.KGA, with speaker dr. Lili Rahmawati, Sp.A(K), and Hands-On II on "Muscle Function Therapy to Address Mouth Breathing" by Dr. drg. Hj. Risti Saptarini Primarti, Sp.KGA (K), guided by drg. Mardiah Rizqo Butar-Butar.
Additionally, Hands-On III covered "Nasoalveolar Molding: A Hands-on Workshop for Unilateral and Bilateral Cleft Lip and Palate Patients" by Dr. Narayan H. Gandedkar, BDS, MDS, FCFO, guided by drg. Ami Angela Harahap, Sp.KGA, M.Sc.
