The activity began with remarks from the Chairperson of the Committee, drg. Darmayanti Siregar, M.K., followed by remarks from the Dean of FKG USU, Dr. drg. Gema Nazri Yanti, M.Kes. Subsequently, Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Cooperation of USU, Prof. Dr. Eng. Himsar Ambarita, S.T., M.T., also delivered remarks and officially opened the International Summer Course 2026.

A total of 24 participants from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Gambia, and Turkmenistan participated in the activity. In addition to serving as a space for gaining academic knowledge, the International Summer Course 2026 also provided a platform for participants to interact and strengthen relationships through the Get to Know Each Other session. The activity became even more lively with a choir performance and the presentation of souvenirs to guests as part of welcoming participants and guests to the international event series.

After the opening session, participants continued with academic activities in the classrooms of Building B through two lecture sessions featuring experts from international universities. The first session featured Sunporn Namano, DDS, CAGS, DScD from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, who delivered a lecture entitled “Zirconia Dental Implants and Topographic Effect on Osseointegration”. The following session featured Dr. Wan Izlina Wan Ibrahim from Universiti Malaya, Malaysia, with a lecture entitled “Natural Resources and Technology in Oral Biology”. Both sessions provided participants with opportunities to broaden their knowledge of developments in science and technology in the field of dentistry.

Closing the first day of activities, participants attended a Yoga Session at the Nazir Alwi Room led by a representative of the Consulate General of India in Medan. In addition to serving as a means of relaxation after participating in the academic activities, this session also provided an opportunity for cross-cultural interaction that strengthened togetherness and created a more inclusive atmosphere among participants.

The implementation of the International Summer Course 2026 is part of FKG USU's commitment to strengthening the internationalization of education, expanding global academic networks, and creating a space for knowledge and cultural exchange for students and academics from various countries. This activity also supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) through cross-country learning and knowledge exchange, SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) through the creation of an inclusive space for interaction and learning among participants from different national backgrounds, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through strengthening international networks and partnerships between FKG USU and various educational institutions and global partners.
