Thousands of new students of the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) began their academic journey enthusiastically in the opening ceremony of the Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB) USU 2024. The event, which took place at the USU Mini Stadium on Monday, August 13, 2024, was an important moment for new students to get to know the campus world.
The event was attended by USU Rector, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., who, in his speech, emphasized the importance of PKKMB as the first step in shaping student character, knowledge, and skills. “PKKMB is not just ceremonial, but the beginning of a long journey that will shape your character, knowledge, and skills as agents of change,” said the USU Rector.
PKKMB USU 2024 was attended by 16 faculties within USU, including the Faculty of Dentistry (FKG), which participated by bringing around 180 new students. The presence of new students from various faculties shows the spirit of collaboration and unity, one of USU's main values.
In addition to the Rector, the event was attended by university leaders, deans, lecturers, and administrative staff who provided direction and guidance to new students. They reminded the Rector of the importance of academic culture and ethics, which must be upheld while undergoing lectures at USU.
Over the next week, new students will attend various faculty and study program introduction sessions, workshops, and seminars designed to equip them with the basic knowledge and skills needed in lectures. These sessions also cover time management and social skills essential for academic and personal success.
The opening ceremony was also enlivened by performances from various student activity units (UKM) that showcased arts and cultural attractions. This gave new students an overview of the various extracurricular activities they can participate in to develop themselves outside of academic activities.
The festive atmosphere and enthusiasm were clearly visible on the faces of the new students who packed the stadium. They eagerly followed each series of events and established relationships with fellow new students from various regions in Indonesia.
PKKMB USU 2024 is expected to provide sufficient provisions for new students to adapt to campus life and face the challenges they will encounter during their studies. With the start of this PKKMB, Universitas Sumatera Utara opened a new page in producing the next generation of the nation who are competent and ready to compete in the national and international arena.
