FKG USU, 12/9—The Integrated Laboratory of the Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) of the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held a MiniPCR Forensic Lab Workshop to introduce and explore D1S80 VNTR analysis in DNA forensics. This workshop was held in collaboration with PT Plasma Unitech Global, with Alfandy Hermansyah, M.Si, as the main speaker.

DNA forensic technology has become an essential element in criminal investigations and individual identification in this modern era. One of the most critical methods is VNTR (Variable Number Tandem Repeat) analysis, which allows forensic experts to compare DNA profiles between samples.

This workshop aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the D1S80 VNTR analysis technique, which is one of the genetic loci often used in forensic analysis. Alfandy Hermansyah, M.Si, an experienced DNA forensic expert from PT Plasma Unitech Global, will share his knowledge of the latest DNA analysis techniques and how to apply them in a forensic context.

Workshop participants will get practical training using the MiniPCR Forensic Lab, a sophisticated tool used in DNA analysis. They will learn about DNA sampling, DNA isolation, D1S80 VNTR amplification, and analysis of results with the help of the latest equipment and software.

Head of the Integrated Laboratory of the USU Faculty of Dentistry, Prof. Dr. Ir. Zainal Abidin, M.Sc., said, “This MiniPCR Forensic Lab Workshop is part of our efforts to continuously improve the knowledge and skills of students and professionals in the field of DNA forensics. We are very grateful to Alfandy Hermansyah, M.Si, and PT Plasma Unitech Global for their cooperation in organizing this workshop.”

The workshop was attended by USU Faculty of Dentistry students, police officers, and DNA forensic professionals from various agencies. They hope this training will help them perform their duties more effectively and accurately in the future.

The MiniPCR Forensic Lab Workshop-D1S80 VNTR Analysis was held while adhering to strict health and safety protocols to protect participants from the spread of COVID-19. All participants must wear masks and maintain social distancing during the event.

For more information about this workshop and other FKG USU Integrated Laboratory activities, you can contact FKG USU through their official website or call the phone number listed.

This is a valuable opportunity for professionals and students interested in DNA forensics to gain the necessary insights and skills to develop their careers. This workshop is expected to be a positive step in developing DNA forensic science in Indonesia.
