The Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FKG USU) once again carried out its International Student Exchange program by sending postgraduate students from the Specialist Dentistry Education Program (PPDGS) in Periodontology to participate in an exchange program at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). This program took place recently.
The exchange is part of FKG USU's efforts to broaden its students' academic and clinical perspectives and enhance international collaboration in dentistry. Drg. Aini Hariyani Nasution, Sp.Perio, Subsp.RPID(K), Head of the PPDGS Periodontics Program at FKG USU, emphasized that this initiative is expected to provide valuable experiences for participants in understanding Malaysia's dental education and clinical practices.
"This exchange program offers students the opportunity to learn directly from experts at UKM, engage in joint research, and enhance their clinical skills. It is also a strategic step to strengthen bilateral relations between FKG USU and UKM," said Dr. Aini.
Selected PPDGS Perio students from FKG USU participated in various academic and clinical activities at UKM, including seminars, workshops, and hands-on practice sessions at UKM’s dental clinic.
Beyond academic activities, participants were also invited to explore Malaysia's culture and social life, enriching their understanding of cultural diversity and fostering international friendship.
The Vice Dean I of FKG USU, Dr. drg. Olivia Avriyanti Hanafiah, Sp.B.M.M., Subsp.C.O.M. (K), expressed hope for the program's continuity and growth in the future. "We are committed to continuously improving the quality of education and expanding our international network. This exchange program is a tangible realization of that commitment," she stated.
The student exchange program is part of a collaboration agreement between FKG USU and FKG UKM that has been established for several years. Both institutions are committed to supporting academic mobility and research collaboration for mutual advancement in dentistry.
