The Indonesian Association of Orthodontists (IKORTI), in collaboration with the Specialist Program in Orthodontic of the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FKG USU), successfully held a social service event titled “Orthodontists’ Contribution to the Nation.” The event aimed to break the Indonesian World Records Museum (MURI) record for the country's most significant orthodontic installation and treatment activity, reinforcing the orthodontic community’s commitment to improving public dental health.

The event occurred at the Faculty of Dentistry, USU, and was attended by Dr. drg. Olivia Avriyanti Hanafiah, Sp. B.M.M., Subsp. C.O.M. (K), Vice Dean I of FKG USU, as a demonstration of full support from the faculty. The Head of the Specialist Program in Orthodontics, Dr. drg. Erliera, Sp.Ort., Subsp.DDTK(K) also attended and led the event, which marked a significant act of social service from professional orthodontists to the public.

USU’s Dental and Oral Hospital (RSGM USU) also provided crucial support by offering medical facilities and health personnel to ensure the orthodontic treatments were carried out to high clinical standards. This support was vital for the safe and high-quality execution of the event, particularly given the public’s intense enthusiasm for the free services.

Out of 90 registrants, 17 individuals were selected to receive fixed orthodontic treatments that day. These patients underwent a thorough screening process to ensure they met the medical criteria required for the procedures. In addition to installation, each patient received comprehensive dental examinations and education on orthodontic care and oral hygiene.

Dr. drg. Erliera, Sp.Ort., Subsp.DDTK(K) emphasized that this initiative is part of Indonesian orthodontists' social mission to contribute meaningfully to the community. “We hope this event not only helps those in need of orthodontic treatment but also provides valuable education on the importance of dental and oral health,” she said.

The MURI record further solidifies the commitment of IKORTI, the Specialist Program in Orthodontics of FKG USU, and RSGM USU in advancing dental health in Indonesia. MURI recognized the event as the social service activity with the highest number of patients receiving fixed orthodontic installation and treatment in a single event—a historic milestone in the nation’s dental care landscape.

The event concluded with the presentation of MURI certificates of recognition to IKORTI, the Specialist Program in Orthodontics, and RSGM USU in appreciation of their dedication. Organizers hope this event will not only be a one-time achievement but also inspire other health institutions to take part in improving dental and oral health across Indonesia.
