The Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FKG USU), organized a two-day public relations coaching clinic on Saturday and Sunday, January 29-30, 2022. This activity was carried out online through the Zoom meeting and offline in the Nazir Alwi room, FKG USU. The resource persons in this training were Sadath Ardiansyah and Joko Irawan, former ANTV reporters and cameramen. The training was also attended by the Dean of the USU Faculty of Dentistry, Dr. Essie Octiara, drg, Sp. KGA.
In her speech, Dr. Essie Octiara stated that this activity aimed to improve the quality of the FKG USU Public Relations team. The training was attended by fifteen participants, consisting of lecturers, staff, and students of FKG USU. On the first day, the activity began with the basics of news-making theory and online shooting. The participants were very enthusiastic about listening to the material presented by the resource person.
On the second day, the activities were carried out offline in the form of a workshop, which attracted the attention of the participants. The speakers taught how to be a good news anchor, including the correct script writing techniques with the 5W and 1H requirements (what, when, where, who, why, and how). In addition, Sadath Ardiansyah taught the method of reading hard and soft news straightforwardly and transparently.
Another resource person, Joko Irawan, taught good image capture and editing techniques, ranging from zoom in, zoom out, long shoot, medium shoot, extreme, to margin or imaginary lines. The various objects of image training are the prospective reporter participants themselves.
This activity is expected to produce a FKG USU Public Relations team that is ready and resilient in making news at FKG USU. In the future, every activity carried out by FKG USU is expected to be documented and seen by the academic community through the FKG USU website and social media platforms, such as YouTube, Instagram and Facebook.
