FKG USU once again held an international guest lecture program by inviting Thu Ngoc Yen Nguyen, DDS, Ph.D., a speaker from Vietnam and a lecturer from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City. The event took place at the Nazir Alwi Room, FKG USU, and was enthusiastically attended by students, lecturers, and dental practitioners.
In this guest lecture session, Dr. Thu Ngoc Yen Nguyen presented a topic titled “Achieving Optimal Smile Aesthetics with Periodontal Surgeries in Combination with Other Specialities and Digital Approach.” The topic emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in dentistry to achieve optimal aesthetic outcomes, particularly through periodontal surgery and modern digital technologies. “Smile aesthetics is not only about teeth, but about how various dental disciplines synergize, supported by digital technology for more precise results,” stated Dr. Yen Nguyen during her presentation.
Vice Dean III of FKG USU, Dr. drg. Pitu Wulandari, S.Psi., Sp.Perio, Subsp.MP(K) was the moderator and effectively led the session. The discussion was warm and interactive, especially during the Q&A session, which brought up various clinical perspectives from the participants. The attendees showed strong interest in digital innovations in periodontal procedures and collaborative practices that can enhance patient care quality in aesthetic contexts.
In her remarks, the Dean of FKG USU, Dr. drg. Essie Octiara, Sp.KGA., Subsp.PKOA(K) appreciated Dr. Yen Nguyen’s presence and stressed the importance of broadening the international insight of FKG USU’s academic community. “This event proves our commitment to delivering the latest knowledge and strengthening global networks. We hope Guest Lectures like this will continue as part of FKG USU’s internationalization strategy,” said Dr. Essie.
This Guest Lecture not only enriched participants’ knowledge of aesthetics and periodontal surgery but also reinforced FKG USU’s position as a dental education institution actively building global cooperation and constantly promoting international knowledge exchange.
With the implementation of this activity, FKG USU continues to strive for adaptive, collaborative education relevant to modern dentistry's developments.
