FKG USU, 16/10 - The Specialist Program in Orthodontics at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FKG USU) held a Guest Lecturer event with the theme “Technology and Natural Resources in Orthodontics” on October 16, 2023. The event, which took place at the USU Faculty of Nursing Hall, successfully invited two prominent guest lecturers, namely Prof. Dr. Ida Bagus Narmada, drg. Sp.Ort(K), and Prof. Dr. Deddi Prima Putra, MS, Apt.
At this event, Prof. Dr. Ida Bagus Narmada and Prof. Dr. Deddi Prima Putra discussed integrating technology and natural resources in orthodontics. The USU Faculty of Dentistry Professional Program students, USU Faculty of Dentistry Orthodontics Residents, and USU Faculty of Dentistry Dental Conservation Residents enthusiastically followed these two guest lecturers' presentations.
This activity was also supported by a moderator who is no stranger to the Specialist Program in Orthodontia, namely drg. Teguh Aryo Nugroho MDSc., Sp.Ort., subsp.DDTK(K) guided the discussion very carefully and informatively. Discussions on the use of cutting-edge technology and the utilization of natural resources in orthodontic practice were the event's main highlights. The students and residents at FKG USU got an in-depth insight into the latest advancements in orthodontics.
Prof. Dr. Ida Bagus Narmada, drg., Sp.Ort(K), one of the speakers, stated, “The use of technology in orthodontics is essential to improve efficiency and desired outcomes in dental treatment. However, we must also consider the environmental impact and utilize natural resources wisely for environmental sustainability.”
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Deddi Prima Putra, MS, Apt, added, “In developing orthodontic products, we must think of ways to reduce our carbon footprint and utilize environmentally friendly natural materials. This is a big challenge and an opportunity to create positive change.”
The Guest Lecturer event successfully created a platform for the students and residents of FKG USU to interact directly with experts in the field of orthodontics. The spirit to continue learning and innovating in facing global challenges in orthodontic practice was strongly felt in this event.
The Chairperson of the USU Faculty of Dentistry Specialist Program in Orthodontics, Dr. (drg.), expressed his gratitude to Prof. Dr. Ida Bagus Narmada, Prof. Dr. Deddi Prima Putra, drg. Teguh Aryo Nugroho, and all the participants who had made this event a success. “We hope that events like this can continue to be held to improve the understanding and skills of students and residents in facing the increasingly sophisticated and sustainable era of orthodontics,” he added.
The event provided new knowledge and inspired the participants to continue contributing to developing the field of environmentally friendly and technology-based orthodontics. Hopefully, the spirit of innovation instilled in this event will continue to bring positive changes in orthodontic practice.
