The Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FKG USU), recently hosted the World-Class University Top Scientist program featuring Prof. Dr. Mohammad Tarique Rahman, Ph.D., from Universiti Malaya. Prof. Rahman delivered a scientific lecture on “Immunology for Dentistry.” The event was held on September 18, 2024, at Building B of FKG USU and moderated by Dr. drg. Pitu Wulandari S.Psi, Sp.Perio, Subsp.MP (K).
In his lecture, Prof. Rahman discussed the important role of immunology in dentistry, from understanding the immune response to oral infections to the latest clinical applications in managing periodontal disease and implantology. His presentation emphasized how research developments in immunology contribute to more effective dental care innovations.
“Oral health has a close relationship with the body's immune system. Understanding these mechanisms is important for dentists to provide better, evidence-based care,” said Prof. Rahman.
This activity attracted great interest from the lecturers, students, and dental health professionals who attended. Vice Dean III of FKG USU, Dr. drg. Pitu Wulandari S.Psi, Sp.Perio, Subsp.MP(K) stated that this event is an important step in improving the academic quality of FKG USU and strengthening international networks in dental research.
“We hope that this collaboration between FKG USU and Universiti Malaya can enrich insights and open up opportunities for future cooperation,” said Dr. Pitu.
As part of FKG USU's efforts to become a World-Class University, the Top Scientist program aims to introduce the academic community to global trends in dentistry and increase its international competitiveness.
