The Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FKG USU), held another orientation for professional students on August 20, 2024. This event marked the first step for 187 students who will undergo an important phase in their education, namely clinical practice at the Dental and Oral Hospital of the Universitas Sumatera Utara (RSGM USU).

 

The orientation was attended by the Dean of Faculty of Dentistry USU, Dr. drg. Essie Octiara, Sp.KGA, Subsp.PKOA(K), and Director of RSGM USU, drg. Siti Salmiah Sp.KGA.Subsp.KKA(K). In her speech, Dr. drg. Essie Octiara emphasized the importance of this professional stage as a forum for developing clinical skills needed in dentistry. “We hope that students can make the best use of this opportunity, showing high dedication and commitment during their practice at RSGM USU,” she said.

 

The Dean of the USU FKG carried out the symbolic handover of students to the Director of the USU RSGM, who then gave a briefing on clinical protocols and operational standards that must be followed during practice. “RSGM USU is ready to support and guide students every step of the way. This is an opportunity for you to learn and hone your skills in a real clinical environment,” said drg. Siti Salmiah.

 

This orientation aims to introduce students to the work environment they will face and instill professional ethics and responsibilities as prospective dentists who are competent and have integrity. The orientation activities included an introduction session to RSGM facilities, training on patient safety standards, and interactive discussions with senior doctors who shared their experiences and challenges in clinical practice.

 

After completing this orientation, 187 FKG USU professional students are ready to start their new journey at RSGM USU, where they will face various real clinical cases that will shape them into reliable dentists ready to contribute to society.

 

The event was closed with a group photo session and prayer, symbolizing hope for the students' smoothness and success in this professional period.
