The Faculty of Dentistry of the Universitas Sumatera Utara (FKG USU), in close collaboration with the Indonesian Red Crescent (BSMI), held a Palestine Care event on Friday (1/12). The activity, which was held in the Nazir Alwi room of the Faculty of Dentistry USU, raised humanitarian funds to help Palestinians who continue to suffer from the prolonged conflict with the state of Israel.

Dean of Faculty of Dentistry USU Dr. drg. Esie Octiara, Sp.KGA, in her speech, stated that this activity is a tangible manifestation of the concern of FKG USU and BSMI for the difficult situation experienced by the Palestinians. “We realize that the conditions in Palestine are very difficult, especially for the people directly affected by the conflict. Through this activity, we hope to provide real help and support to them,” said dentist Essie.

The event began at 09.00 WIB and was attended by USU FKG students, lecturers, education staff, and BSMI. The Nazir Alwi room atmosphere was filled with the spirit of togetherness and care, which was increasingly felt when the main speaker, Dr. Fatimah Zain, a BSMI representative, delivered a presentation on the current conditions in Palestine.

“We see that the situation in Palestine is getting worse, especially in the midst of this global pandemic. Humanitarian assistance is urgently needed to support the daily lives of Palestinians who are isolated and have difficulty gaining access to health, food, and fuel to power generators in hospitals and ambulances,” said the BMCI secretary.

In order to raise funds, the committee organized a charity auction, in the form of special merchandise with the theme of caring for Palestine. All proceeds from the sale and donations from participants will be channeled entirely through BSMI to assist Palestinians in need.

“We invite all FKG USU components, students, lecturers, educational staff, and the general public to unite in this concern. Every donation, no matter how small, will mean a lot to our brothers and sisters in Palestine,” said Dr. Irfan Siregar.

At the end of the event, a symbolic handover of the collected funds to BSMI representatives was made by the Dean of the USU Faculty of Dentistry, Dr. drg. Esie Octiara, Sp.KGA, as a sign of the seriousness of FKG USU in supporting humanitarian efforts for Palestine.

All participants and organizers hope that this activity will not only be a momentary moment of solidarity, but also a starting point for sustainable efforts to help Palestinians who are still struggling for their basic rights. With the good cooperation between FKG USU and BSMI, it is hoped that the assistance collected can have a real positive impact on those in need.
