The Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Sumatera Utara (FKG USU) once again achieved remarkable success at the Medical Education and Dentistry Scientific Competition (MEDESC), held as part of the RAKERNAS XIX PSMKGI 2025 series of events. Hosted at the USU Student Center, FKG USU students earned top honors in multiple competition branches — including Scientific Poster, Wax Carving, and the Dental Olympiad — outperforming participants across Indonesia's dental faculties.

In the Scientific Poster category, FKG USU students swept the podium, securing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place consecutively:

  • 1st Place: M. Dwi Haikal (220600035); Aurora Graciella (220600036); Supervisor: Drg. Kholidina Imanda Harahap, MDSc

    2nd Place: Viona Shafa Auliya (230631262)

    Supervisor: Drg. Kholidina Imanda Harahap, MDSc

    3rd Place: Valencia Jesslyn (220600031); Yolanda Christin Lubis (220600034); Angeline (240631235)

    Supervisor: Drg. Ika Astrina, MDSc

In the Wax Carving competition — a test of dexterity and dental anatomy artistry — FKG USU again came out on top:

  • 1st Place: Muhammad Hocky Y. F

    Supervisor: Drg. Putri Welda Utami Ritonga, MDSc, Sp.Pros., Subsp. PMF(K)

  • 2nd Place: Theodorus Dwinovius (Universitas Sam Ratulangi)

  • 3rd Place: M. Guntur Surya Putra

    Supervisor: Drg. Putri Welda Utami Ritonga, MDSc, Sp.Pros., Subsp. PMF(K)

In the highly competitive Dental Olympiad, FKG USU secured all top positions, thanks to excellent teamwork and in-depth mastery of the subject matter:

  • 1st Place: Marchoney Maria Situmorang (220600045); Yolanda Christin Lubis (220600034); Abel Hanna Eliza (220600050)
  • 2nd Place: Abigail Pinta Uli (220600016); Jimmy Pranata D (220600042); Ririn Febriyanti N (240631114)
  • 3rd Place: Viona Shafa Auliya (230631262); Agnes Raiwana Putri (220600033); Juliartha Melvin P (230600019)

Dean of FKG USU, Dr. drg. Essie Octiara, Sp.KGA., Subsp.PKOA(K) expressed great pride and appreciation for these outstanding achievements.

“This victory not only reflects our students' academic capabilities and skills but also showcases their mentors' hard work and the healthy competitive spirit fostered within FKG USU. May this achievement inspire other students to continue excelling and making their mark at national and international levels,” she stated. These accomplishments reaffirm FKG USU’s commitment to encouraging its students to achieve excellence, innovate, and contribute to the advancement of dental science in Indonesia. The faculty hopes more students will participate in scientific and competitive events in the future, strengthening FKG USU’s position as a hub of academic and character-based excellence.
