That day, the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FKG USU), was filled with excitement. Students, lecturers, and medical personnel gathered in the auditorium to celebrate the opening of National Dental Health Month (BKGN), organized by FKG USU. This event is a series of important activities that will last for three days until December 20, 2023.
With a look of excitement in his eyes, the Dean of FKG USU, Dr. drg. Essie Octiara, Sp.KGA, Subsp.PKOA(K), opened the event with an inspiring speech. She emphasized the important role of FKG USU in increasing public awareness of the importance of oral health. The official opening was marked by a ribbon cutting by the Dean and several student representatives involved in organizing BKGN.
Free Dental Treatment for the Community
After the opening, the Integration room of RSGM USU was filled with patients who lined up to get Free Dental Treatment services. The final semester students involved in this activity worked with dedication. They provided free oral care to people in need, ranging from teeth cleaning to treatment of more serious dental diseases.
Topical Apical Fluoride in Medan City Schools
Not only on campus, FKG USU also reached out to several elementary schools in Medan city. A team of students and lecturers moved to the field to provide Topical Apical Fluoride to elementary school children. They educated the students about the importance of maintaining dental hygiene and taught them the correct brushing technique. This activity received a warm welcome from teachers and parents who realized the importance of early dental care.
Teledentistry: Online Dental Consultation
Innovation does not only occur in physical clinics but also through Teledentistry. FKG USU offers a free consultation service regarding oral health online. The public can access this service via chat via Whatsapp at the number listed on the BKGN flyer. The types of consultation provided include chat, phone calls, and video calls, giving the public flexibility in interacting with medical personnel.
The Teledentistry team, consisting of students and senior lecturers, is happy to provide information, consultation, and advice to needy people. The service runs until December 20, 2023, giving the community ample time to use it.
Enthusiasm and Success of BKGN FKG USU 202
At the end of BKGN 2023, FKG USU succeeded in making a big positive impact on the people of Medan. They not only provided direct dental health services but also raised public awareness of the importance of dental care. This event proved that the USU ECG is not just a place of learning but also an institution that cares about and contributes to public health.
