The Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FKG USU), recently held an expert lecture featuring Lelawati Lingga, S.Kep., Ners., a seasoned healthcare professional with extensive experience in surgical nursing. With the topic “Operator Preparation Before and After Entering the Operating Room (OR),” the event took place in the Nazir Alwi Room and was attended by students from the Specialist Dental Education Program (PPDGS) and clinical dentistry students (co-assistants) of FKG USU.
During the lecture, Lelawati Lingga discussed essential steps that operators must take before and after entering the operating room, covering aspects such as personal hygiene, instrument sterilization, and critical preparation and closing procedures in the surgical environment. This topic is particularly relevant for students who will soon be active in operating rooms, as proper preparation plays a crucial role in ensuring patient safety and surgical success.
Following the theoretical session in the Nazir Alwi Room, participants could engage in hands-on practice in the operating room (OR) at the USU Faculty of Dentistry Hospital (RSGM FKG USU). This practical session provided students with real-world experience, allowing them to apply the knowledge they had just acquired and sharpen their skills in an actual surgical setting.
Participants expressed their enthusiasm and appreciation for the knowledge and practical experience gained. “Through this kind of expert lecture, we get to learn directly from professionals and gain a deeper understanding of how to work safely and professionally in the operating room,” said one participant, a PPDGS student of FKG USU.
This expert lecture is expected to serve as a valuable foundation for students to enhance their competencies in dentistry, particularly in crucial aspects of surgical preparation. The event reflects FKG USU's commitment to delivering high-quality, practice-oriented education to produce skilled and competent healthcare professionals.
