To increase collaboration between various faculties and institutions within the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), the USU Research and Innovation Development Agency (BPRI) visited the USU Faculty of Dentistry. This event aims to socialize the commercialization strategy of patent products produced by the USU Faculty of Dentistry. This visit presented the Chairperson of BPRI USU, Buchari, St., M.Kes, and Nana Dyki Dirbawanto, SE, M.BA, who plays a vital role in downstream innovation and research products into commerce within the Universitas Sumatera Utara.

Chairman of BPRI USU, Buchari, St., M.Kes, said that this activity was part of the university's efforts to accelerate technology transfer from academia to industry. “We believe that patent products produced by faculties, including the Faculty of Dentistry, have great potential to positively impact the community and economic development in Indonesia,” said Buchari on 29/11 in the Nazir Alwi room.

The socialization began with remarks from the Dean of USU's Faculty of Dentistry, Dr. drg. Essie Octiara, Sp.KGA, who warmly welcomed BPRI USU's presence. “We are very grateful for BPRI's initiative to make this visit. FKG USU is always committed to producing innovations that not only contribute to the academic world but also bring real benefits to society,” said the Dean.

As one of the BPRI representatives, Nana Dyki Dirbawanto, SE, M.BA, gave the first presentation on the importance of commercializing patent products in supporting local economic development. He presented data and statistics illustrating the market potential for innovative products produced by the Faculty. “We see that there is a great opportunity to increase the involvement of industry and the business sector in adopting innovative products from the academic environment,” said Nana Dyki.

Furthermore, Buchari, St., M.Kes, further explained the concrete steps that the Faculty can take to improve the commercialization of its patented products. “We encourage faculties to establish partnerships with industry, conduct research relevant to market needs, and design effective marketing strategies,” he explained.

In the question-and-answer session, the visiting participants had the opportunity to interact directly with representatives of BPRI USU. The discussion covered various aspects, ranging from the government's role in supporting product commercialization to the potential for cross-sector cooperation between faculties and industries.

The visit ended with a direct visit to the faculty's laboratories and research centers, where the participants were able to see firsthand some of the innovative products produced by researchers and students. It is hoped that this activity can begin closer cooperation between the Faculty and industry and encourage more innovations that can have a positive impact on society.
