The Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FKG USU), warmly welcomed a special visit from the Alumni of the Class of 1976 as part of a reunion and fellowship gathering. This visit became a meaningful moment for the alumni to retrace their cherished memories of student life, while also rekindling the emotional bond with their alma mater that shaped their academic and professional journeys.

The delegation of the Class of 1976 Alumni was received directly by the leadership of FKG USU, namely the Dean of FKG USU, Dr. drg. Essie Octiara, Sp.KGA., Subsp.PKOA(K), accompanied by Vice Dean I, Dr. drg. Olivia Avriyanti Hanafiah, Sp.B.M.M., Subsp.C.O.M.(K), and Vice Dean III, Dr. drg. Pitu Wulandari, S.Psi., Sp.Perio., Subsp.MP(K). The welcoming ceremony took place warmly and in a family-like atmosphere in the Dean’s Office of FKG USU, reflecting the close relationship between the institution and its alumni.

A strong sense of familiarity was felt from the very beginning of the meeting. The alumni enthusiastically engaged in casual conversations with the faculty leadership, exchanged stories, and reminisced about their student years filled with struggle and togetherness. Various stories about academic journeys, campus life dynamics in the 1970s, and early experiences in building careers as dentists were shared, interspersed with laughter and nostalgia that brought past memories vividly back to life.

This gathering was not only an occasion for reunion, but also a space for reflection on the long journey the alumni have undertaken since graduating from FKG USU. The alumni recalled how FKG USU served as the place where they were academically trained, character was shaped, and they were prepared to serve society through the profession they continue to pursue today.

On this occasion, the Dean of FKG USU, Dr. drg. Essie Octiara, Sp.KGA., Subsp.PKOA(K), expressed her appreciation and gratitude for the visit of the Class of 1976 Alumni. She emphasized that alumni are an inseparable part of the history and development of FKG USU. The contributions of alumni in various fields—whether in academia, healthcare services, or community service—stand as tangible evidence of the important role alumni play in enhancing the institution’s reputation.

“The presence of the Class of 1976 Alumni today not only brings back memories, but also reminds us all of the values of togetherness, family spirit, and loyalty to our alma mater. FKG USU grows and develops together with its alumni,” stated the Dean of FKG USU.

This reunion and fellowship activity is expected to further strengthen the emotional bond between alumni and FKG USU, while also opening opportunities for sustainable collaboration and communication in the future. Moreover, this moment serves as an inspiration for the current generation of FKG USU students to continue nurturing the spirit of togetherness, upholding family values, and fostering a sense of love and pride for their alma mater. Through activities such as this, FKG USU reaffirms its commitment to maintaining strong relationships with its alumni as part of the extended faculty family, while preserving the legacy of values and history that have been built over decades.
