FKG USU 5/09—On Tuesday, The Dental Test Laboratory of the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FKG USU), received a special visit from the assessors of the Institute for Self-Accreditation of Health Universities (LAM-PTKes). The visit aimed to provide a glimpse of the laboratory facilities and educational programs at FKG USU.
From the visit, the admiration of Prof. drg. Suryono, S.H., MM, Ph.D. saw the idea of establishing a Dental Laboratory Industrial Services Unit, which is the only one in Indonesia under the Faculty of Dentistry and his desire to develop something similar in his place of origin where he was the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry UGM.
To improve the quality of dental education in Indonesia, FKG USU routinely undergoes an accreditation process by LAM-PTKes. This visit is part of the evaluation stage to ensure that the education program and facilities are in place. It is a distinct advantage that the USU ECG has a Dental TEST laboratory. With all the facilities owned, it can help students learn to develop knowledge and skills in dentistry.
The LAM-PTKes assessors arrived at FKG USU at 9 a.m. and were warmly welcomed by the dean of FKG USU, Dr. drg. Essie Octiara, Sp.KGA, Subsp.PKOA (K), and the Head of the Dental Conservation Specialist Study Program, Drg. Wandania Farahanny Sp.KG. Subsp.KR(K), MDSc, lecturers, and academic staff. The assessors were then invited to tour the dental test laboratory facilities, which are equipped with the latest equipment, including the latest digital equipment.
During the visit, the LAM-PTKes assessors carefully reviewed various aspects, including the latest facilities, the dental technician staff who are the mainstay with limited availability of dental technicians, and the facilities used in perfect condition. They also interacted with several dental technicians regarding the work.
Dr. drg. Essie Octiara, Sp.KGA, Subsp.PKOA(K) welcomed the visit, expressing, “We are very grateful to the LAM-PTKes assessors for their visit today. We are committed to continuously improving the quality of our dental education, especially the Dental Conservation Specialist Program, and this visit provides valuable feedback that will help us in this endeavor.”
This visit is one of the essential steps in ensuring that FKG USU continues to meet high academic and professional standards in dental education. The evaluation results from the LAM-PTKes assessors will guide further improvements in implementing educational programs at FKG USU.
With this visit, FKG USU continues to demonstrate its commitment to providing high-quality dental education, which will benefit the Indonesian people in the field of oral health.
