Dental Science

Master's Program

The Master's Program in Dental Sciences at the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) is an advanced study program that aims to develop dental science through research and applying the latest technology in various aspects, such as oral biology, dental material science, and forensic dentistry. The program is committed to producing innovative and practical research outputs. One of the goals is to improve the quality of students so that graduates can have a successful career as a dentists, both in health institutions and private practice.

The vision of this study program is "To become an institution that produces research-based Master of Dental Science graduates who excel in the field of Biomedical Dental Science nationally and can compete globally." Graduates of the USU Master Program in Dental Science are expected to become agents of change in dental practice, integrate the latest discoveries in patient management, and contribute to scientific progress nationally and internationally. Students who complete this study program will receive a Master of Dental Science (M.Dsc.) degree.

2009

The Master's Program in Dental Science at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Sumatera Utara, was opened in 2009 by the Decree of the USU Rector No. 933/H5.1.R/SK/PRS/2009, dated May 11, 2009, concerning the establishment of a Master's Program in Dental Science at the Universitas Sumatera Utara. This program aims to become an institution that produces research-based Master of Dentistry graduates who excel in Biomedical Dental Science nationally and can compete globally.

The committee for preparing the proposal for the S2 education program of the Faculty of Dentistry consists of Prof. drg. Ismed Danial Nasution, Ph.D., Sp.Pros (K); Prof. drg. Trimurni Abidin, M.Kes., Sp.KG (K); Prof. drg. Haslinda Z Tamin, M.Kes., Sp.Pros (K); Dr. drg. Ameta Primasari, MDSc, M.Kes; and drg. Eddy Dhahar, M.Kes. At the beginning of this study program, the Chancellor decided that every prospective PPDGS student must participate in the primary two education program. The Chairperson of the IKG S2 Study Program, Dr. Drg. Ameta Primasari, MDSc, M.Kes, and Secretary of the Study Program, Prof. drg. Sondang Pintauli, Ph.D., has nine first-batch students, 12 second-batch students, and five third-batch students. Since the third batch, prospective PPDGS students have no longer been required to take S2 study programs.
